Suji Halwa also known as Semolina Halwa is a very popular Indian sweet dish. It is made with semolina ghee sugar and water. The halwa tastes warm soft and sweet with a smooth texture. People in India prepare it for breakfast festivals puja prasad or as a quick dessert at home. It is simple to make and needs only a few ingredients.

What Is Suji Halwa

Suji Halwa is made with

  • semolina
  • sugar
  • ghee
  • water or milk

The halwa becomes soft and fluffy when cooked slowly.


Ingredients You Will Need

For the Halwa

  • 1 cup suji semolina
  • 3 tablespoons ghee
  • Half cup sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 pinch cardamom powder
  • A few cashews and raisins optional

Step by Step Method to Make Suji Halwa

Step 1

Roast the Suji

  1. Heat ghee in a pan.
  2. Add suji.
  3. Roast on low heat for four to five minutes.
  4. Stir continuously so it does not burn.
  5. The suji should become light golden and smell nice.

Step 2

Add Water

  1. Add water slowly while mixing.
  2. Stir well so no lumps form.
  3. Let it cook on low heat.

Step 3

Add Sugar and Cardamom

  1. Add sugar to the halwa.
  2. Add cardamom powder.
  3. Mix well.
  4. Cook for two to three minutes until halwa becomes thick and smooth.

Step 4

Add Dry Fruits Optional

  1. Add cashews and raisins if you like.
  2. Mix and switch off the heat.

Serve and Enjoy

Serve halwa warm.
